In a world characterised by constant busyness, where it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, disconnected and unsure of one’s purpose, journalling has emerged as a sanctuary for many. This simple yet profound practice allows people to slow down, reflect and engage in intentional self-discovery. The benefits of journalling for mental health are increasingly well-documented, making it a habit worth incorporating into daily routines. When combined with guided tools like MYnd Map journals, this practice becomes even more transformative, providing clarity and a roadmap to a more balanced, fulfilling life.
The mental health benefits of journalling
Journalling offers a host of mental health benefits. Research shows that the act of writing down thoughts and emotions can help reduce anxiety, manage depression and alleviate stress. Writing serves as an outlet for processing emotions, gaining clarity on complex feelings and understanding one’s mental state more deeply. However, journalling isn’t merely about venting frustrations; it’s a proactive tool for tracking progress, recognising behavioural patterns and setting meaningful goals. Whether it’s reflecting on daily gratitudes, identifying challenges or celebrating small victories, journalling helps foster a positive mindset and build resilience against life’s ups and downs.
Moreover, the benefits of journalling extend beyond emotional relief. By consistently tracking thoughts, behaviours and goals, individuals can better understand what drives them, where they might be getting stuck and what changes are needed to move forward. Structured journalling, like that offered by MYnd Map products, takes this process a step further. With prompts designed around mindfulness, gratitude and personal growth, these journals guide users through a holistic approach to self-care and mental well-being. By encouraging introspection and providing space for planning and reflection, MYnd Map journals help people navigate challenges while staying focused on their aspirations.
Why MYnd Map stands out
MYnd Map
Founded by Rosemary Ikpeme—a Nigerian-born Londoner, MYnd Map was created from a deeply personal journey. Despite having a successful career in the media and broadcast industry, Rosemary found herself feeling lost, unfulfilled and yearning for more. Her exploration into personal development led her to discover techniques that transformed her life. She recognised that, like her, many others needed a structured, science-backed approach to help them reconnect with their purpose and achieve their dreams.
What sets MYnd Map apart is its combination of mindfulness practices, gratitude exercises and productivity tools rooted in neuroscience and psychology. MYnd Map journals are not just blank pages waiting to be filled—they are comprehensive guides that provide the structure many need to achieve their goals and improve their mental health. Whether someone is struggling with mental health issues, feeling stuck in their career or simply seeking more meaning in life, MYnd Map offers a supportive framework for introspection, planning and growth.
VegClub (VC): What inspired you to make the leap from a successful media career to starting MYnd Map and how did you overcome the self-doubt that accompanied that transition?
Rosemary Ikpeme: (RI): For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had numerous business ideas and a strong desire to be in business; however, due to a lack of confidence and, frankly, a lack of encouragement, I hesitated to pursue any of my ideas or dreams.
As Tony Robbins says, “change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change”. Facing bullying and discrimination in my dream job significantly impacted my mental health, pushing me to finally give my business idea a chance. Despite initial self-doubt and imposter syndrome post-launch, seeing the positive impact of my products—like helping people start new lives, cope with cancer treatment or support their children’s mental health; gradually lessened these feelings.
Each MYnd Map journal is carefully crafted to nurture mental well-being through practices such as visualisation, affirmations, mindfulness and gratitude. These techniques are backed by science and are known to enhance mental resilience, boost self-esteem and improve overall life satisfaction. The journals encourage daily habits that keep users grounded, focused and inspired, helping them navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and clarity.
How journalling complements a mindful lifestyle
Journalling is a natural companion to a mindful lifestyle and for those who practise veganism, the connection becomes even clearer. Veganism, at its core, is about living in alignment with values of compassion, mindfulness and ethical consideration. Similarly, journalling encourages individuals to live with intention, make conscious decisions and reflect on how their actions align with their deeper values.
While MYnd Map journals are designed for everyone, they resonate particularly well with those who embrace mindful living. The practice of journalling reinforces the intentional choices that define a vegan lifestyle, whether it’s documenting the journey, reflecting on ethical decisions or setting goals for living more consciously. Even for those who are not fully committed to veganism, journalling offers a way to explore their motivations and values, helping them make decisions that contribute to a more compassionate and mindful way of living.
VC: Your journey into personal development seems to have played a pivotal role in creating MYnd Map. Could you share a few of the most impactful practices or techniques that helped you find purpose and clarity?
RI: My personal development journey heavily shaped MYnd Map, integrating tools I discovered during challenging times.
Daily meditation and self-reflection are essential, helping me stay present, clear-minded and purpose-driven. Meditation grounds me, reducing future worries and past regrets, while self-reflection encourages growth through key questions like: What brings me joy? Am I where I want to be?
These practices, alongside gratitude, affirmations and effective planning, are embedded in MYnd Map. They’ve given me clarity, purpose and the ability to set authentic goals through a reflective, stress-free mindset.
A role model for journalling: Emma Watson
Actress and activist Emma Watson is a shining example of how journalling can be used as a powerful tool for self-reflection and growth. Known for her thoughtful approach to life, Watson has maintained a diary for years and keeps multiple journals for different purposes. She has a variety of journals, including personal diaries, a dream diary, a yoga diary and even diaries dedicated to the people she meets and the advice they give her. Watson also keeps an acting journal and a collage book, in addition to a five-minute journal that helps her quickly capture her daily thoughts and intentions.
For someone as busy and multifaceted as Emma Watson, journalling serves as a way to stay connected to her inner self, remain organised and continuously reflect on her life’s journey. Her dedication to this practice is a testament to the value of journalling for personal and professional growth. Whether you’re tracking dreams, reflecting on meaningful advice or simply capturing daily reflections, Watson’s approach shows that journalling can be customised to fit every aspect of life.

The unique feature of MYnd Map products lies in their ability to combine creativity with practicality. By incorporating elements like colour therapy, visualisation exercises and scientifically-proven planning techniques, these journals keep users engaged and motivated. The vibrant designs and thoughtful layouts make the process of planning and reflection enjoyable, transforming what might otherwise feel like a chore into a creative and fulfilling activity.
VC: Do you still journal regularly and how has your journaling practice evolved since you first started MYnd Map?
RI: Yes, I still journal, especially when feeling overwhelmed, facing significant life events or struggling to make a decision. My approach to journaling and mindfulness has evolved; I now incorporate nature walks, even if it’s just 5-10 minutes, which help clear my mind and reduce stress and then I journal afterwards. This practice supports my decision-making and enhances my focus. Before MYnd Map, I used to either journal in the morning or evening, but now I use journaling for brain dumping and managing daily tasks with a to-do list. This method provides clarity and keeps me organised throughout the day.
Rosemary’s vision is to create tools that empower people to dream big, stay on track and celebrate progress along the way. Her own journey of overcoming self-doubt and stepping into her purpose is reflected in the MYnd Map brand, which serves as a beacon for those seeking to live a more intentional, purpose-driven life. The message is clear: it’s never too late to pursue your dreams, no matter how daunting they may seem.
