LGBTQ+ owned vegan businesses that we should be supporting in the UK

Planet G Food

June is pride month, a time for community, representation, solidarity, and identity as well as resistance to discrimination and violence. Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honour the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.

The first official UK Gay Pride Rally which was held in London on 1 July 1972, and we are here to celebrate all and to highlight those businesses that also follow the vegan lifestyle. Whilst supporting and celebrating with rallies and making donations towards LGBQ+ charities, we can also make a difference in supporting those businesses through our purchases.

We’ve compiled a list of LGBTQ+ owned vegan businesses to show your support to:

Proud Beer

Proud Beer is not a large, multinational brewer. They’re the original queer beer for good; a small team with a love for craft beer. Founders Ethan Spibey and Sören Scharf created Proud Beer to serve as a platform to relate back to the charities that help the queer community all year round rather than just during Pride Month.

20p of sales are donated straight to LGBTQ+ charities; selling 100 bottles of PROUD funds 10 self-test HIV kits, or five days' worth of materials to tackle homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools.

Planet G Food

Marta and Gemma own Planet G Food, a plant-based food truck based in Edinburgh, with a mission to help people reduce their environmental impact through plant-based food without compromising flavours and protein intake.

With a diverse menu, Marta and Gemma have ensured that they serve plant based healthy food, sourcing ingredients supporting local Scottish farms and communities.

You can catch them at the many events throughout Edinburgh and Scotland, or Planet G can cater any event, whether it's a wedding, a ceilidh, or a cosy gathering.

Vida Bakery

Vida Bakery is a 100% vegan and gluten-free bakery. Co-founder Dani (coeliac and vegan) struggled to find sweet options, matching her dietary needs and in 2016, opened Vida Bakery in London. They specialise in cakes, cookies, cupcakes and brownies.

Vida means life in Spanish. Which was chosen as it reflects the brand and ethos of celebrating life and adding colour to your everyday life!

Vida Bakery offers in store orders or postal orders including DIY kits, cookies, brownies and even frozen cakes.

Mabel’s Vegan Yorkies

Mabel’s Vegan Yorkies

Married couple Lauren and Sophie from Manchester created Mabel’s Vegan Yorkies in 2019 when they realised there were no vegan Yorkies readily available. They are passionate about promoting plant-based lifestyles and eating delicious food, and ensure that no one misses out on their favourite part of a roast dinner—Yorkshire Puddings.

They are a small family business, starting locally before expanding wholesale to pubs, restaurants, independent shops, and retail direct to customers from their own website.

The Gay Farmer

Multi-award-winning organic extra virgin olive oil producer, The Gay Farmer creates products using biodynamic sustainable farming methods and ethical, traceable produce.

They expanded to the Olive Mill, which is situated at the centre of a 1500-acre estate, ensuring the olives are from tree to press in less than 3 hours to limit oxidisation. This preserves maximum health benefits and flavour. The products are made with the aim of caring and respecting others and this beautiful planet we live on for generations to come.

LuvJus

Award winning LuvJus create alcoholic sodas that are bursting full of refreshing flavour, 100% natural, vegan, no added sugar or preservatives.

In the Summer of 2016, housemates George and Owen packed their bags and set off for their first international Pride experience. While they’d had the time of their lives, they hadn’t found anything they’d wanted to drink. A combination of unhealthy options, inflated prices and corporate brands jumping on the Pride bandwagon didn’t resonate with their experience, and so on their return, LuvJus was created.

5% of profits from LuvJus are donated to LGBTQ+ charities and initiatives.
