Sustainable fashion has come a long way, and MoEa is leading the charge in the sneaker industry. This Paris-based company is redefining footwear by blending style, comfort, and sustainability. With a commitment to using bio-materials, reducing carbon footprints, and promoting ethical practices, MoEa is proving that fashion does not have to come at the planet’s expense.
A mission for sustainable style
MoEa was founded with a clear mission: to create sneakers that are as stylish and comfortable as traditional leather pairs but without harming the environment or animals. The company believes that sustainability should not be an afterthought but a core principle of modern fashion. By developing sneakers from plant-based materials, MoEa offers an innovative solution to one of the fashion industry’s most significant environmental challenges.
Based in Paris, MoEa takes pride in its European roots, with a diverse team from France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland. This multicultural approach allows the company to embrace different perspectives while maintaining a shared goal: making sustainable sneakers the new norm.
Low-carbon bio-materials: A game changer
MoEa
MoEa’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond rhetoric. The company utilises cutting-edge bio-materials, including CoconutSkin, CornSkin, GrapeSkin, MushroomSkin, CactusSkin, PineappleSkin, OrangeSkin, and AppleSkin, to craft its sneakers. These materials not only replace animal leather but also significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Studies conducted by FAIRLY MADE®, a leading traceability and impact measurement platform for fashion brands, reveal that MoEa’s bio-materials emit 95% less carbon than traditional leather. While leather production emits an average of 61kg of CO2 per m², MoEa’s bio-materials release just 2.93kg per m².
Additionally, the energy consumption of these bio-materials is remarkably lower. Producing bio-materials requires 85% less energy than leather, further contributing to MoEa’s low environmental impact.
A measurable commitment to sustainability
MoEa’s sneakers have undergone rigorous life cycle assessments (LCA) to measure their carbon footprint. The results are impressive:
• A pair of MoEa GEN1 sneakers emits just 6.4kg of CO2, compared to the 30.1kg emitted by traditional leather sneakers—a 79% reduction.
• The GEN7 model, which combines multiple bio-materials, emits 8.22kg of CO2, which is 73% less than a comparable leather sneaker.
By producing sneakers locally and relying on plant-based alternatives, MoEa ensures that every pair contributes to a more sustainable fashion industry.
Supporting WWF’s environmental initiatives
MoEa’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its sneakers. The company is a proud member of the WWF SME Club in France, recognising its social and environmental dedication. Through this partnership, MoEa financially supports the WWF Forest Protection Program, which focuses on:
• Fighting deforestation through corporate sustainability commitments
• Protecting high-conservation value forests
• Promoting sustainable forest management
• Restoring degraded forests
With 80% of terrestrial biodiversity residing in forests, MoEa’s support for WWF plays a crucial role in safeguarding these ecosystems.
