Alma Veg, born from a desire to combat animal cruelty, is the result of a couple’s effort to make a difference. Ed Gomes, a journalist turned chef after moving to Portugal and Ricardo Ferreira, who worked on cruises and knew over ten countries, decided to pivot their lives in 2018. Their stuffed aubergine is our favourite dish, featuring roasted aubergine stuffed with plant-based meat, tomato sauce, rice, fresh salad and corn cream.
Scoop n Dough—Lisbon
Scoop n Dough, located at Rua das Portas de Santo Antão 78, Lisbon, is a cherished family-run establishment specialising in vegan treats. Founded by two brothers, this quaint spot is celebrated for its artisanal doughnuts and exquisite macarons. Committed to using premium ingredients, Scoop n Dough crafts its sweets with a dedication to quality and flavour. Visitors experience not just delicious confections but also a warm and familial atmosphere. With a focus on vegan principles and a passion for fine desserts, Scoop n Dough has become a beloved destination, offering more than just treats but a sense of community.
Jardineiro—Porto

A Padoca—Porto
A Padoca is a pioneer of healthy gastronomy, situated at Rua do Rosário, 13, Porto. The establishment began its journey in January 2015 and opened its doors by May of the same year, introducing a revolutionary concept in nutritious eating. Over nearly a decade, it has evolved from a predominantly vegetarian establishment to a fully vegan haven, committed to ethical and environmental respect. Notable offerings include their unique Pastel de Nata, a delightful twist on the classic Portuguese pastry and the Ricotta Toast with Bacon, which combines rich flavours in a vegan-friendly way. Apuro is Porto’s first vegan restaurant and bar with live events, opened on 5 October 2018, located at Rua do Breiner, Cedofeita. Their No Fish Burger, featuring a breaded ‘fish’ fillet, lettuce, spinach, tomato, caramelised onion, tartar sauce and parsley is a highlight. Apuro follows an ethical philosophy aligned with humanistic and sustainability values, offering a fully plant-based menu sourced from local, organic producers. The pet-friendly space welcomes four-legged friends, who often receive plenty of attention. Apuro also showcases cultural projects and supports animal rights, human rights, feminist, anti-racist and LGBTQ+ causes.
Organi Chiado—Lisbon
Organi Chiado aims to create harmony among people, animals, the environment and health. Recognised by TripAdvisor as Lisbon’s best vegan and vegetarian restaurant in 2018 and 2019, it is celebrated for its famous grilled hamburger and vegetable salad with quinoa. Situated on the charming steps of Calçada Nova de São Francisco in Chiado, Organi Chiado offers both outdoor and indoor seating in a quintessentially Lisbon setting. The restaurant is committed to using local, seasonal and animal-free ingredients, providing a delightful dining experience for both vegans and non-vegans alike.
